The great friend to bloggers, and wonderful painter, Edward Burton, mentioned in a recent post that he and his wife are rosarians--serious cultivators and admirers of the rose. I love painting roses, and struggle to do them justice. The transparent petals, velvety soft and sharp-edged all at once. They really are a miraculous flower. The Burton's garden with 45 rose bushes must be a sight to behold. Imagine!

Wow, Liz, I really appreciate your very kind mention - thank you so much! You did an outstanding job on the rose - it radiates! Very beautiful! And I love the way you did the background.
What a beautiful painting! I'm enjoying discovering your blog after reading your comment.
Liz, this is stunning! ...and now I know something new about our awesome painter friend Edward. I'm glad to have found your blog! Welcome :)
You do honor to the rose, Liz! That foremost petal glows with light!
Thank you all for your generous comments. Thanks, Edward, for your inspiration and being such a goodwill ambassador for so many of us.
Nice to meet you Lucie and Maggie.
Dean- thanks! I love the vibrancy of watercolor.
This is so beautiful! So challenging to capture the way a bloom glows in the sunlight. You did this superbly!~
I have a reciprocal Holy Cow! Your flowers are beautiful. The colors are outstanding but what I love most about them is your implied detail.
When I step away from the painting (on screen of course) it looks like a photo. Up close, beautiful washes of color. Hmm... wouldn't it be nice to see these up close!
Thanks, so very much, Douglas. (We should start a new Holy Bovine award) : D
Your rose is wonderful. The light glow on the flower is beautiful.

Thanks very much, Joanne, and thanks for visiting my blog.
And a belated (head-slap) thank you to Doug for the gentle nudge to save and post larger file sizes. : )
Hi Liz,
I just love roses, and sometimes try
to paint them too -- but never with such skill and artistry!
Barbara
Thanks, Barbara!
I am awed by the light you put in the bottom petal with yellow....man! Just perfect! I grow roses...8 bushes so far, more someday I hope...and you have done roses proud with this one!
Thanks, Lee! I would love to grow roses. Some day I'll be brave enough to plant some! : )
