Live Sketch 2

Oil on gessoed paper
11" x 14"

I lucked out, and was actually close enough to the model for this studio session to see into the shadows.  My goal was to develop an orange/green/violet triad, and to paint the air around her as much as the features.  She was the most pleasant woman.  Her eyes shut by the end of the session, but she was still smiling.  She seemed to radiate light.

Really nice painting. The color harmony is exquisite. You're more organized than me about STARTING a portrait with an idea of what kind of color plan you're going to use.

I know what you mean about getting close enough to see the model! I usually have to use binoculars when I get to my group!!!LOL
You got the air around the model thing, fabulous! And the plan!?? Wow. Love this!

Your description of what you wanted to achieve is just what you did! It's a very atmospheric portrait, very painterly and subtle.

Great job, and congratulations on a well deserved award.

Thank you Patrice! I'm enjoying letting boundaries dissolve more. Seems the more I look, the less defined things are. Could be poor eyesight in my advancing years :-)
