mixed media sketch in moleskine journal |
This is my sketch in Irit Bourla's journal for the Flying Moleskins journal swap. Irit's theme is local places, and since I don't go too far afield these days, out the front door seemed handy. Our home was built in 1920, and has a long covered porch with a swing at one end. When the weather's decent, it's a relatively quiet spot to relax. So relaxing, in fact, that it wasn't until after I'd finished the sketch that I realized I'd done it upside down in the book! Apologies, Irit, but I've cut it out, and glued it in right side up. Your book's flying to Adebanji tomorrow.
Happy Summer everyone.

This is rich and wonderful with detail Liz - My hubby wishes we had a porch like this one!
Wow Liz, you are an amazing artist in any medium, I love it! Your patio looks charming, and if I lived there I'm not sure I would ever leave!!
Great sense of depth.
Thanks, Nancy and Dana! I wish we all lived closer. :-D
It's lovely, and what a wonderful porch you have--great for tea parties!
A wonderful painting. Love the detail.
All this porch needs is a me with an ice cold Bud Light in my hand... Love it! Especially those reflections in the floor...

Thank you , Tony.
Hey Don - it's chilling in the fridge. Bring your gang East any time. :-D
I just visited the F.M. site and had to come here and leave you a comment, too. Thank you so much for sharing this little slice of peace and quiet with us, just beautiful! You are one talented lady!
Great sketch/painting. lovely colors. What a lovely porch to relax on.
Beautiful! Makes you want to come on over and sit down. This appeals to my interior design side, great idea to paint your surroundings.
it looks delightful Liz! which media did you use and if you are painting in this book, does the paper near preping beforehand for oils?
Angela-thanks for visiting here, too. appreciate it!
Thank you, Dors :-D
Hi, Carrie - Thanks for your comments. your paintings are beautiful!
Hi, Rahina - This is watercolor, gouache and ink. I did not prep the paper. It did curl quite a bit, as my first washes were very wet. But I was able to flatten it out.
Liz, what a wonderful job you did with such a tough subject. The perspective is perfect, what a charming and inviting space you have created-wish I could join you there for a cup of tea.
Happy summer to you as well.
Hey Liz, Love this! And I love your porch as you know! :) I like this journal swap idea. What a fun thing to do. I never knew what the "moleskin" thing was that you mentioned, now I do.
What a beautiful front porch. Easy to relax in this environment. Love it and so well rendered.
Dear Liz,
What a beautiful inviting place. I wanna be there.
Thanks so much for a beautiful add to my book.
A great summer to you too, stay cool.
Love, Irit
Thank you, Faye - it would be fun to have tea. Too bad everyone's so far apart.
Linda! Thanks for visiting and welcome to blogland!
Lokelani - thank you so much for your comments.
Hi Irit - thank you, and you're very welcome!
This is so beautiful and peaceful. The cool floor and warm bricks are so inviting. I love older homes - they have so much character. Of course, with character comes leaky pipes, creaky floors and settling cracks (I owned a 1930's home a few years back). In spite of all the work, it is still my favorite house.
Looks so cool and inviting!! And sketched so beautifully. You are SO. GOOD.
Lovely, warm, beautiful and inviting..just like the artist! We just visited Charleston and Savannah and this wonderful porch of yours reminds me of the southern porches in these great cities. Lucky Irit to have this slice of heaven in her book.
This is so beautifully executed, Liz. Makes me want to hang out there with a tall glass of lemonade. Fantastic!
Wow! I love this. More!!!
Liz - Soooo nicely done! Reminds me of the party porch I had in college with my roommates. Thanks for the memories....
I also dream of having a porch like this Liz! What a beautiful painting.
What a funny story Liz...I saw that porch! It's a very pretty porch, and a wonderful subject. I don't think I've ever seen you work in ink and watercolor before. You are really skilled at it. This is a beautiful piece.
Hi Liz,
I'm commenting here too (did on fb). Now that I see your sketch after a while from the first time, I must say it's almost a painting, it's a delineated painting I'd dare to say, really great.
Hugs,
Carolina
Have you ever done work on a children's book? This work of art is not only exquisit, but it makes me think of my children's story: The Tra La La Tree.
Good luck to you!
