The Flying Moleskins: Abstract Dreams

May You Soar
acrylic on paper
nfs

These are two pages for Dana Cooper, whose journal theme is dreams.  My dreams have been elusive lately, like shifting sand. A promise glimpsed of some distant, better future that dissolves when I try to understand its shape and content.  Fragments float, illuminated, forming landscapes both strange and somehow familiar. Echoes of joys remembered and not yet known.

Huge thanks to everyone who left such supportive comments on the show last month. We had a great turn-out despite the heat, and it was a success.

I love these Liz, especially the one on top, and your thoughts about them.

These are wonderful. Each very different from the other, but both quite enchanting! More, please.

Wonderful abstracts, Liz! Especially like how you have used underlying textures to show through upper layers.
Also love the accompanying words so nicely written.

Thank you Leslie, Martine, Pam and Sandra.
Dana- super glad you like them. :-D
Dean - many thanks. It's more than 15 layers of paint.

There's so much going on in these paintings, texture, colour and shapes, which make them so interesting to view, they would make great large paintings, I feel inspired to dig out my acrylic paints!

Hi Liz,

Yes, your abstracts are lovely. This is outside of your usual genre, isn't it? Great colors.

I love both of these. They have a really serene feeling and I love whatever you used to get that great texture! You are a real natural at creating terrific Abstracts!

Thank you, Diana - a large one sounds like a fun challenge..though they take so long to paint, I could be at it for a while!

Hi, Karine - I've been working on abstracts for several years..just haven't shared many of them until recently.

Thank you, Gwen! The texture is 15-20 layers of paint, scraped, scribed and scumbled with both brush and palette knife. The abstracts are a real labor of love. :-D

I especially like the second one Liz. It has an ethereal feel to it which seems to fit the fragmenting and soaring - at least for me.

You are braver than I Liz...Abstracts are the hardest style to paint - at least I think so. These are beautiful....I love the blues.

Dreams are abstract by nature, and these two paintings take that abstraction and turn it into an exciting, visual experience. Very nice work!
