Sweet Couple

8" x 8"

Acrylic on BFK Rives
sold

Couldn't resist the subject matter for Karin Jurick's latest challenge. Cupcakes make me feel nostalgic for simpler days, and birthday parties. Realized if I focused on the confetti sprinkles, I'd miss the deadline, so they're unadorned.
Check out the Different Strokes from Different Folks site to see the delicious entries. Happy one year anniversary to DSDF, and many thanks to Karin.

Want to also thank Lee at the inspirational A Day Not Wasted for this very cool artist's apron. It's fantastic. Thanks, Lee!

OMG!!! This is great! I love it Liz! I'm slapping my forehead and yelling, "Why didn't I think of that" in terms of the composition. I can't even get close to your rendering expertise. Still struggling to get it finished. HUGS!

Great job Liz, always nice to see you painting! Luminous colours, those shadows are a delight, even without the sprinkles they still make my mouth water:)

So glad you could find time to do this, Liz! They are wonderful...love the glow in the shadows! Yummy frosting! So interesting that you are doing acrylic on the BFK Rives paper! Great entry!

No Sprinkles? That's okay, because these look luscious unadorned! I think you did a marvelous job on the icing - the trickiest part of this challenge by far. Great work!

Beautiful job with the challenge, Liz - even without the sprinkles. I love the color variations you have in the frosting - especially with the one on the right.

Yeah, you are painting again, you've been missed! And of course you came back with a bang..beautiful colors, perfect shadows and love those swirls. Who cares that there are no sprinkles, we all need to cut calories!

Your painting is nice, I love all the colors included in the whites and shadows... and what it can make you think... almost conceptual (you can tell I'm attending art classes, hehe)

Yay...so glad you joined in! Love the blue you've chosen and all the color within the icing and shadows.

Hi, Sheila! Thanks so much. You're a sweetie. I know your version will be fab. Hugs back.

Cindi - thanks! Yes, I'm always craving sweets, unfortunately.

Thank you, dear Sam! You're kind.

Hi, Rosemary - I was glad to get time to paint this for fun. I have lots of Rives paper, so it's handy. It's a great all-purpose sheet that holds up to washes and layers well and always dries flat. love it!

Hi, Claire - thank you so much. I appreciate your comments.

Thank you Edward. Your comments mean a lot.

Caio - how kind you are! Thank you.

Thanks, Joan. Back painting for short bits at least.

Hi, Carolina - thanks. Guess I am brave re: the photo given how old and tired I am these days! lol. But wanted to show Lee's great logo and apron.

Angela - you're sweet. :-)

Thank you PPASP - is that you, Celeste? :-)
You're very kind. The apron looks good.
The model could use a tune up.

Thanks Dana and Greg.

Hi Michelle - That blue reminds me of childhood parties for some reason.

Thanks, Manon. This apron is such good quality. I love it.

Thank you, Ramesh. you're welcome. Your landscapes are beautiful.

Thank you for your recent comment but allow me to redirect you to what inspired those figure studies. Trust me when I say that Wendy Artin is one of the best watercolorists alive.
She knows how to infuse light into her subjects like no other.
