Another week with little productive painting time, so I'm posting an older painting. The copper pot is Mom's, the conch belonged to my grandmother. In retrospect, I'd take out the wood stand, but at the time I was more interested in the colors, and the light bouncing around.

Awesome, Liz!Everything about this works for me...each subject is so beautifully executed. Love the purple in the Orchids repeated in the shell, the light yellow on the wall refection also picked up in the shell, then the copper kettle color...painted to perfection...corresponding to the wooden floor. I personally like the stand and the cohesiveness it adds to the overall composition. Really beautiful!

I like the wood stand. It balances out all those curves from the orchids and shell. You've done a masterful job on the colors and lighting my friend. This is a wonderful piece.

We need to visit our older paintings just as much as our newer works. Isn't it interesting that Vessels refer to 2 objects that obviously had great sentimental value to you, belonging to vessels that once held you. A special painting with beautiful light.

Hey Leslie - it took several weeks. I had a consistent light source set up, though, so that helped.
Hi, Marian- I later thought the stand didn't fit thematically with the other objects, and was extraneous. It does separate the pitcher and shell visually, however, which was important to me.

Ahhh, Angela! Yes, you are spot on with the meaning of these vessels. You got it. Which is one of the reasons the wood stand bothered me later. But now I'm rethinking it. My dad nailed the stand together to elevate his computer monitor. very utilitarian. I use it now in my studio. So there's the stable and supportive masculine in my otherwise feminine painting. the stand's not the anomaly I thought! :-) Thank you.

With all those nice textures (wood, metal, shell, flowers ..) it's great and I love the way it angles asymmetrically to the corners.

I really like it.
I don't know about removing the stand. It helps at height to the painting and is a clever way to sneak the conch shell underneath it.
The warmth of the wood floor compliments the coolness of the walls brilliantly.
The shadows cast from the flowers look great too!
